ON KILLER FOREIGN KEYS

I thought you might find this interesting. Yesterday I overheard one of our developers asking the DBA "Can you remove those foreign keys? They are killing me!"

Unfortunately, the DBA seemed to be all set to do so, until I "inflamed" the issue by pointing out that the whole purpose of said keys was to stop addition of invalid data. Therefore, they were working as intended, and were not to be removed. Further I wanted him to design his program to add new data in the correct order. He thought I was being difficult.

It’s a strange world.

Not really. This is exactly what you should expect in an ignorant IT industry.
