I just wanted to thank all of you folks at dbebunk.com for
giving me a reason to continue doing my job!!
And for providing me a safe haven where I can be reassured that I am not
out of my mind for trying so hard to do this "modeling thing" well.
I am faced with the "dumbed down" masses daily—and
have almost abandoned all hope.
Not only do they not understand my discipline, or its
purpose; they apparently don't understand their own—citing the inability
of application developers to code against a model that contains (heavens!!) 26
entities. The structures are admittedly
complex and conceptual—but I'll help them understand them—I really will. (I'll even help with the physical design). I
promise to hold their little hands and help them understand how to populate and
retrieve data and not have to change the database (and their precious
applications) the day after tomorrow (and the day after that, and the day after
that, and...)
Their management (and mine) truly believe that "fewer
tables are better ‘cause the application will run faster". Listening to their responses (and
suggestions no less!! ) about an
elegantly-designed and flexible enterprise model is like being buried under a
Wal-Mart daily!!
Thanks for giving me the shovel I so desperately need to dig
out from under all their "knowledge"!!
A beleaguered fellow modeler/architect.

It is nice to know that the purpose for which the site exists
is being achieved, as there is little other satisfaction from it. Glad you
found it helpful.
As I said so many times, a society that renounces knowledge
and reason has no future.
