I would like your opinion on M. Gorman's Database object
centered Enterprise Database Principles.
His principle is can be viewed from a TDAN.com link site below:

ENTERPRISE DATABASE PRINCIPLES

Introduction
An enterprise database must embrace an environment that: Is
database object centered as opposed to data only or process only centered
I am in the process of designing a new enterprise wide
database. I recently read M. Gorman's
Enterprise Database Principles, link to from the TDAN site that the database
should be object centered, as opposed to data, or process centered.
The target environment is an AS400 DB2, retail and
distribution system that used a daily batch to sync the retail stores with the
corporate database. My initial thought
was that the technology would allow me to design and implement a data centric
application. Is there any reason why one would need to follow an
object-centered principle?

I do not have to read Gorman’s stuff to know that Whitemarsh
does not have a good grasp of data management fundamentals. See, for example,
our debunking of some of their material in Great News, the Relational
Model Is Very Much Alive.
Re objects and databases, we published quite a few
articles/books on the subject, in which we explained that OO is at best for application
development, not data management. You may want to do a site search and
locate some of the articles.
Our advice is not to be misled by anything/anybody that/who claims otherwise.
